Clinical Use:
Complete absence of sperm in this test is considered a negative result. Incomplete ejaculation and/or incomplete collection of total ejaculate may cause false-negative results.

Requested Volume:
The laboratory will attempt to analyze any specimen volume submitted. Entire ejaculate.
Container Type:
Clean, no additive container; nonspermicidal condom is acceptable.
Patient Preparation:
No special preparation
Collection:
Collect seminal fluid by masturbation only. Collect entire ejaculate into the specimen container. Avoid the use of lubricants and other contaminants. Avoid temperature extremes during transportation. Abstinence from ejaculation: Two to seven days prior to collection.
Storage Instructions:
Transport specimens to the laboratory at ambient temperatures (20°C to 37°C). Do not refrigerate or freeze.
Rejection Criteria:
Refrigerated specimens; frozen specimens; specimens greater than 72 hours from collection; samples collected in spermicidal condoms.
