Clinical Use:
Nocardia, and/or actinomycetes.16S gene sequencing will be the primary identification method. In some situations, additional ancillary testing (ie, biochemicals, alternative sequencing) may also need to be performed. Susceptibility testing may be requested for an additional charge. The client submitting the isolate for testing should provide LabCorp with clinical and testing information regarding test procedures already performed at the submitting laboratory in order to expedite testing upon receipt.
Specimen Type:
Pure culture isolate of bacteria, yeast, mold, Nocardia, or mycobacteria.
Requested Volume:
Viable colonies macroscopically visible.Pure culture isolate.
Container Type:
Bacterial swab transport inoculated with the isolate from a pure culture or agar slant in screw-cap container packed as an etiologic agent. Maintain a subculture at the submitting laboratory.
Storage Instructions:
Maintain media at room temperature. Ensure that plated media has been securely sealed with parafilm.
Expected Turnaround Time:
1 to 2 Days
Rejection Criteria:
Isolate nonviable; unlabeled specimen or name discrepancy between specimen and request label; broken tube or plate; mixed culture.
